Are you considering seeking lawful permanent residence in the U.S.? Then you’ll need a green card.
A green card is a form of verification that shows that an immigrant has taken lawful measures to live and work in the U.S. Here are two ways you can get a green card:
Employment-based immigration
One of the ways you can get a green card is by working in the United States. An employer may hire an immigrant and then petition for them to get a green card. There are a few qualifications the employer needs before they hire foreign workers. For instance, they must prove that there were no willing or qualified U.S. workers for the job.
The foreign worker would also have to prove that they qualify for a green card. They may have to show that they have an advanced degree or have unique or highly sought skills. This is possibly one of the more difficult ways to get a green card, but it is not impossible to achieve.
Family-based immigration
The more common method people take when seeking a green card is by reaching out to family members that are already U.S. citizens. For example, a parent, sibling or unmarried child under 21 years of age of a U.S. citizen may be eligible for a green card.
There are limits to getting a green card through marriage to a U.S. citizen, such as the intent of the marriage. It cannot be a marriage that is purely for immigration purposes.
Seeking a green card can be difficult. If you’re facing problems getting a green card, it’s important to understand your legal rights and the process itself. Having legal guidance can help.
